  3. Caffeine, alcohol, screens and shift work
  4. What wakes you, including pain or low mood
  5. Your bedtime routine

Your appointment

What will we talk about?

  1. Which causes to check for
  2. Whether you need a test for breathing in sleep
  3. A few changes to your routine to try first
  4. Driving safely if you're sleepy during the day
  1. 01

    Keep a two-week sleep diary

Note your bed and wake times for two weeks. Your practitioner reads it first.

  2. 02

    Meet your practitioner on video

Your first appointment is a live video call. Talk about snoring and daytime sleepiness.

  3. 03

Get your plan and a sleep study if needed

Leave with a written plan and changes to try. Your next review is booked too.

Possible outcomes

What happens after your appointment?

There are six possible outcomes. Each one is normal. Advice on sleep habits often comes first.

  • General advice and guidance
  • Pathology or further investigation
  • Referral for a sleep study
  • Scheduled monitoring and review
  • Treatment, if deemed medically appropriate
  • No treatment

Your practitioner explains which one fits you and why.

FAQ

Common questions

Ask anything else at your appointment.

A woman speaking with a practitioner by video call from home
Will I be given something to help me sleep?

Usually not. Habit changes come first. Treatment is an option only if deemed medically appropriate.

Should I track my sleep beforehand?

A simple sleep diary helps more than a sleep tracker score. You don't need either to book.

What if my partner says I stop breathing at night?

Book and mention it first. Your partner is welcome on the call.
